The Colorado health benefits exchange program received $17.9 million yesterday in grant money from HHS. The money will be used to hire staff and make progress on the technology that will be needed to run the exchange starting in 2014. We still dont know how the Supreme Court will rule in terms of the legality of the individual mandate, and that makes the future of the exchanges a bit uncertain. But Colorado is making good progress with implementation of a state-based exchange. S
New analysis by Legal General shows that the number of people claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) because of mental and behavioural disorders has increased over 29% since 2010.
ESA is paid to people who cannot work because of ill-health or disability and in May 2011, 265,530 people were claiming the allowance because of mental and behavioural disorders, compared with 205,700 a year earlier.
The study, which is based on figures from the Department of Work and Pensions, also reveals that in 2011:
73,600, or over 27% of mental and behavioural disorder claimants, were aged between 35 and 44, an increase of over 29% compared to 2010.
61,230, or over 23% of mental and behavioural disorder claimants, were aged between 24 and 34, an increase of nearly 28% compared to 2010.
However, the largest percentage increase was in the +60 age group (+66.9%) with 4,640 such claimants in May 2011.
LG suggests that its research highlights the importance of early notification and specialist support for employees with mental health problems.

CPP shares, which were suspended at 103p on 20 February, dropped 37.25p to 65.75p. A year ago, just before the FSA inquiry was made public, they stood at 280p.
The FSA last month ordered CPP to change how it handles renewals of policies, giving customers more chances to opt out, and to review past sales going back to 2005. The company said yesterday this will cost it £16.9m. That knocked pre-tax profits for last year by 29 per cent to £28.3m, which its chief executive Paul Stobart described as a “robust performance”.
CPP has lost one major customer in Barclaycard and also a chunk of business with HSBC in the UK. <
Businesses are different in various ways. The same holds true for their business insurance. Smaller businesses may need less than a larger business would and the reverse could hold true. Each business will have different coverage needs and an insurance agent is just the person to identify these needs for the business owner. It can be hard to navigate the insurance needs of companies due to many different things. Shannon talks about her experience with shopping for replacement eye lenses to correct her cataracts.
